The first three Mortal Instruments had this addictive quality that made you need to read more, which led me to read this one. Clare told a fast-paced and action filled YA suspense, which was exactly what I needed at the time. Out of pure desperation, the fact that it was a derivative was not even almost a deterrent. My first experience with this genre was The Mortal Instruments which had just released the third book. Let me explain - While knowing nothing of Clare's plagiarism or the controversy surrounding the books, the need for something similar to Buffy overwhelmed me, leading to the discovery of the urban fantasy genre. I actually really liked the original series. To love everything would be great, but that's just not realistic.ĭon't just write me off as a hater and leave it at that.
